At New Earswick Primary, we follow the Little Wandle phonics program and select resources as appropriate.

Reading Scheme

Our reading books are matched to the Little Wandle phases of phonics. We ensure children in the early stages of reading are only offered phonetically decodable books as well as those who may require catch up further up school.

Want to know a little more about reading at NEPS? Here’s a flavour of reading activities we have in school:

  • Bedtime boxes for Nursery & Reception. Something for the whole family to enjoy: take our bedtime bear home for a cup of hot chocolate, a biscuit and a book to share!

  • Author or Theme of the month for KS2.  Our assemblies aim to expose the children to a wider range of authors and genres. Following the assembly, children are able to to sign up to loan a book. 

  • Reading Buddies.  Whenever we can, we buddy up with children in different year groups to share and enjoy a book together.
