Phonics Screening Check

In Year 1, in June, your child will take part in a Phonics Screening Check.

The purpose of the Phonics Screening Check is to confirm that all children have learned phonic decoding to an age appropriate standard.

  • There is also a great series on BBC iPlayer called ‘Treasure Champs’, which explores a different theme each episode such as loyalty, empathy, wisdom etc.  It links well with PSHCE! 

Spellings

Each week, your child will be tested on a set of spellings which link to a sound, rule or pattern. Spelling tests will take place on a Monday and the new list for the week ahead will also be shared.

We please ask that families set aside blocks of 10-15 minutes at least three times a week for children to practise their given rule.

OPTIONAL Homework Activities:

Each half term, we will give the children some fun OPTIONAL Homework activities to complete, if they’d like to.  Any entries will be proudly hung on our PROUD wall in the school hall and shared in Friday’s celebration assembly.
