Multiplication Tables Check
In Year 4, your child will participate in the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) in June.
The purpose of this check is to determine whether your child can fluently recall their times tables up to 12, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will also help your child’s school to identify if your child may need additional support.
Please click here for an information leaflet for parents about the MTC with further details.
Home learning ideas to support Year 4:
Hit the Button is a game on the Top Marks website that is particularly useful for learning unfamiliar times tables. The children are familiar with using this game. See if you can beat them on each times table! https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
Times Tables Rockstars is a fun way for children to earn coins to upgrade their avatars in the game by answering times table questions. It is most useful for practising the recall of times tables that children already know well. https://play.ttrockstars.com/
In Year 4, we try to make children aware of current affairs and the world around them as much as possible. The Newsround website is an excellent way to do this as it is updated every day with news stories around the world in a way that is accessible and interesting to children. https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround
Youtube can be an excellent learning resource if you find the right channel! Brightside create a wide variety of interesting videos that will broaden your child’s knowledge of the world around them. https://www.youtube.com/c/BRIGHTSIDEOFFICIAL
Spellings
Each week, your child will be tested on a set of spellings which link to a rule or pattern. Spelling tests will take place on a Monday and the new list for the week ahead will also be shared.
We please ask that families set aside blocks of 10-15 minutes at least three times a week for children to practise their given rule.
Please click on the document link below (Summer 2) for this half term’s spellings.
OPTIONAL Homework Activities:
Each half term, we will give the children some fun OPTIONAL Homework activities to complete, if they’d like to. Any entries will be proudly hung on our PROUD wall in the school hall and shared in Friday’s celebration assembly.
Below are the optional homework activities that have been set so far this academic year:
